Borders & Binding Demo / Q&A Saturday, March 21 · $10 or Dog Food Donation Join us for a demonstration and Q&A session focused on adding borders and finishing quilts with binding. We’ll cover multiple techniques for borders and several binding methods. This is a great opportunity to see techniques demonstrated step-by-step and ask questions. $10 class fee or bring dog food donations for our local animal shelter.

Longarm Certification & Rental Sessions Interested in using our longarm machine for your own quilting projects? These Longarm Certification & Rental Sessions are designed for quilters who want to become certified to rent our longarm in the future or for those who are already certified and want time on the machine for personal projects. During certification sessions, you’ll receive hands-on instruction covering machine operation, safety, setup, and best practices to ensure you feel confident and capable working independently. Once certified, you’ll be eligible to schedule future longarm rental time. Certified users may reserve rental sessions to work on their own quilts during designated time slots. Time slots are limited and available by reservation only. Supplies and preparation requirements apply and may vary by project. Please speak directly with the instructor prior to booking to review requirements, confirm eligibility, and ensure the session is a good fit for your project. Whether you’re getting certified or continuing your quilting journey on our longarm, these sessions provide the space, guidance, and equipment you need to bring your quilts to life. IMPORTANT INFORMATION Shop long-arm can only take a 84 inch backing (frame is 8 ft) the top can be 76 inches. Certification includes: free motion or learn to follow pantograph. How to load your backing, batting and quilt top on longarm frame. How to thread machine, winding M bobbins. Rental: free motion or pantograph, Shop has limited color of threads, the use of pre-wound bobbins can benefit the customer. Preparing your quilt top for quilting on a long arm Trim stray threads, checking all seams to ensure they are all closed. BACKING FABRIC MUST BE SQUARE AND AT LEAST 4" LARGER ON ALL SIDES THAN YOUR QUILT TOP For example:. Quilt Top measures 60” x 60" Backing Fabric at least 68” x 68" but may be bigger BATTING MUST BE AT LEAST 4" LARGER ON ALL SIDES THAN YOUR QUILT TOP. This class is designed for quilters who want to learn or improve their foundation paper-piecing skills while working on a stunning, large-scale project. We’ll be creating Son of a Nutcracker by Full Quilt Boogie — a festive quilt that combines both traditional piecing and foundation paper piecing techniques. Don’t be intimidated by the finished size of the quilt (71" x 89"). The larger sections actually make this project more approachable and enjoyable, even as you build advanced skills. This is a multi-session project, and Session 1 will focus on getting started: understanding the pattern, organizing sections, preparing materials, and beginning construction. Students may attend in person or via video, making it easy to follow along from home. Kits will be available, or students may choose to use their own fabrics. This class is ideal for confident beginners ready to grow or experienced quilters looking to sharpen their paper-piecing skills while working toward a show-stopping finished quilt. Join us for a guided panel quilt class featuring the Running Free fabric collection. This class focuses on turning a panel into a cohesive, finished quilt by learning how to plan layout, add complementary borders, and work through key finishing techniques. The Running Free panel and coordinating fabrics will be available for purchase in the shop and are designed to work beautifully together, making fabric selection easy and stress-free. During class, we’ll walk through layout options, border planning, and construction tips so your panel quilt feels balanced and intentional from start to finish. You’ll also gain helpful insight into measuring, cutting, and assembling your quilt top with confidence. This class is ideal for confident beginners and beyond. Basic sewing and machine knowledge is recommended. While the class fee covers instruction, all supplies—including the panel and coordinating fabrics—are not included and must be purchased separately. Come ready to learn, be inspired, and turn a stunning panel into a quilt you’ll be excited to finish.

Son of a Nutcracker – Session 2 Friday, March 20 · 10:30 AM Continue your Son of a Nutcracker foundation paper piecing quilt in Session 2. This class focuses on precision alignment, construction progression, and refining paper piecing techniques as you move forward in your quilt project.

To make classes enjoyable for all, we request that you adhere to the following policies. Thank you for having confidence in us as we further your quilting knowledge.
Registration
- To reserve your class spot, payment will be required at time of registration.
- You can register in person, or over the phone
- If you need to use a GS sewing machine for your class, please reserve it ahead of time. It is free to use!

Specific Class Supplies
- Some classes require supplies. If supplies are needed, a supply list can be obtained either in-store or online under the class section.
- Be sure to purchase your supplies ahead of class so that you are prepared! All students receive a 10% discount on supplies required for classes. Just remind the staff member!
Cancellations
- If you must cancel, allow 5 days prior notice. We will be happy to refund the amount, apply it as a store credit, or apply it to another class.
- Cancellations less than 5 days prior to class may result in fee forfeiture. We will do our best to fill your spot, but if it cannot be filled, class fees will not be reimbursed.
- Gathering Stitches reserves the right to cancel a class for any reason. If your class has been canceled, you will receive a full refund.
Class Etiquette
- Please arrive on time and prepared with class materials.
- Turn off your cell phone (or at lease put on silent). If you MUST take a call, please step out of the classroom.
- Please pay attention to the instructor.
- Don't forget to leave your work area clean!

Sewing 2.0 — Intermediate Sewing 5-Day Course Sewing 2.0 is an intermediate sewing course designed for students who have completed a Basic Sewing class and are ready to build confidence through garment sewing and structured projects. Over five class sessions, students will create both wearable garments and functional sewn items while learning techniques that elevate their skills beyond the basics. This course focuses on clean construction, proper use of interfacing, pattern reading, and finishing techniques that help students sew with more independence and confidence. Projects Include: Elastic-waist pajama pants Drop shoulder blouse with facing, sleeves, and button Structured organizer basket Fully lined tote bag with pocket (completed over two sessions) Skills Covered: Reading and using printed patterns Garment construction and fit basics Elastic waistbands and hems Sewing with facings and inset sleeves Using fusible interfacing and fleece Lining projects cleanly Sewing boxed corners Reinforcement and professional finishes This class moves at an intermediate pace with guided instruction and hands-on practice. Students are encouraged to problem-solve, ask questions, and build confidence while sewing independently. Prerequisite: Completion of Basic Sewing / Sewing 1.0 or confidence in operating sewing machine and basic sewing techniques Course Length: 5 sessions Skill Level: Intermediate beginner Students must bring their own sewing machine and supplies.
